Tseng
My name is Jadden, and I was born in 2004 in Taipei, Taiwan; I have since lived in seven cities in four countries. My works tell cross-national, multi-lingual, or cultural-non-specific stories, and seek to explore human understanding in this globalised age.
I began my art practice as an illustrator and writer, then started photography at sixteen as a way to conceptualise the cityscapes around me — to cope with the constant change of alien people and unfamiliar spaces. I then helped out on my friends' sets as cameraperson, and eventually got the chance to direct.
For my undergrad, I studied English Literature at Durham University because I felt like I needed to know more about the way people think in relation to the world, how we move about culturally, diachronically and synchronically through space, ideologies and history as collectives and as individuals. I did not feel like I could keep creating when I did not know myself and where I stand.
At university, I was secretary then president of the Durham Student Filmmaking Society, where I taught weekly workshops, hosted challenges and screenings, and helped students make films. I am now in Prague, to study directing for a year at FAMU International.
I hope to meet lots of hopeful, passionate and interesting people, to work and be friends with! Please leave me a message if you want to get in touch, about work, food, snorkelling or anything!
